About This Blog

Welcome!

QUILTBAG Kids reviews and discusses issues relating to YA books that include characters who belong to the Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Lesbian, Transgender, Bisexual, Asexual, and Gay community, and seeks to provide an inside perspective on the stories available to our community.

About the Author
My name is Juan. I'm pansexual and genderqueer, and use she/her and they/them pronouns. I like birds and flowers and stories about queer kids.

I'm a firm believer that all readers deserve to see themselves represented in literature, especially young readers who may still be working through their own identities. And while queer characters in young adult lit are definitely on the rise, it can be hard to find them in the sea of YA being published, and even harder to sort through them all and find the ones that really accurately represent who we are.

That's where reviews come in. I know I'm just one voice, and obviously I can't speak for the entire community on every book, but I hope that by reviewing these books, I can create more discussion around them and help readers find the kinds of stories they're looking for.

*Please note: this blog uses the term queer as a reclaimed word and an umbrella term for all members of the QUILTBAG community.*
